TAILORING LOVERS

We asked some of the tailors regular customers a few quick questions about what tailoring means to them. These are true tailoring lovers so who better to explain the benefits of owning your own hand made garment.

Andreas Doukanaris

1. How do you find the best tailor for yourself and what tailors do use?
It depends what I need, I've been to so many tailors over the years and I think I've found two which I will always use, Peter Harland I will use for most of my garments, and I would use stitches for my shirts.

2. What does a perfectly tailored garment mean to you/ how does a tailored suit make you feel?
If I have had something made for myself it gives me a confidence nothing else can, even having of the rack nipped and tucked doesn't give you the feel of MTM or bespoke, and people always comment on garments I've had made.

3. Do you only use Liverpool tailors/ if not who and why?

Yes both Peter Harland and stitches.

4. How long have you been getting your clothes tailored?
Since my early teens, garments needing hems and tapers.

5. What do you think of the cost of tailoring?
Very reasonable from both my tailors, for convenience and time they are both very competitive.

6. Have you ever got a made-to-measure or bespoke suit/ if so why and what is the difference compare to ready-to-wear?
Yes I have, as I stated earlier just the feel of the garment on, makes you want to buy another, it gives you confidence and to know that nobody else will be wearing that exact piece.

7. How often do you visit a tailor?

Me being fussy at least once a week! Sometimes to re alter something I have had previously altered, always changing my mind.

1. How do you find the best tailor for yourself and what tailors do use?
The way I found the best tailor was just trial and error, but it was important to find a really good tailor! There can be some really bad one out there that can miss lead you and it might put you off tailoring thinking that it is a waist of time and money.
I use Peter Harland (Harland collier) I think they provide amazing service and at a very competitive price.

2. What does a perfectly tailored garment mean to you/ how does a tailored suit make you feel?
A perfectly tailored garment means that it fit better then anything, that it dose not look lose around your waist, to big on the shoulders to long on the leg, looks like that one peice look like it has just been made for you and only you!
A tailored suit make me feel confident, relaxed, proud, to go out in a tailored suit make you feel like you can just take on the word! Ahah

3. Do you only use Liverpool tailors/ if not who and why?
Yes, I will only use Liverpool tailors as I like to support local businesses.

4. How long have you been getting your clothes tailored?
Ermm.. About 7-8 years I have been getting stuff done, I rember going into the old gieves and hawkes store down stairs in the met quarter and I was somewhat fascinated by it, I got some chinos from there and had them tailored and when I got them back I just loved them and have done it ever since.

5. What do you think of the cost of tailoring?
I think the cost on tailoring is invaluable, you can take a £60 suit and spend £200 on it and it will look like a £1500 bespoke suit, it's worth every penny.

6. Have you ever got a made-to-measure or bespoke suit/ if so why and what is the difference compare to ready-to-wear?
No, I cannot say I have all thow I have had shirts made for me but unfortunately I have not worn them :(

7. How often do you visit a tailor?
I visit the a tailor after ever purchase to see if it can be take in or up ect, because when I buy  clothing I always like to know that it can fit me the best that the garment has to offer.

1. How do you find the best tailor for yourself and what tailors do use?

recommendations are always good ways to find a good tailors and of course these days the Internet  is good with customers reviews.

2. What does a perfectly tailored garment mean to you/ how does a tailored suit make you feel?
If a suit fits well you feel like a million dollars, especially when people comment on your suit it makes you feel great.

3. Do you only use Liverpool tailors/ if not who and why?

Only ever use liverpool tailors,  prefer to spend my money localy,  if you don't use it you lose it, must support local stores.

4. How long have you been getting your clothes tailored?

Had suits since I was 16. So forty six years now.

5. What do you think of the cost of tailoring?

Well it is worth paying for quality. The price is forgotten long after the quality remains. IThink that a good suit looked after will last for many years. If a suit is made for you then it is worth paying for something that makes you look good.

6. Have you ever got a made-to-measure or bespoke suit/ if so why and what is the difference compare to ready-to-wear?

Had both made to measure and bespoke. Either of the two are both good . Bespoke is ideal if you have a difficult body posture or you want something really way out. Made to measure is good for me now lots of choice of options and style and is a lot quicker than  bespoke. Both have there place though.

7. How often do you visit a tailor?

I visit a tailor twice a year. Keeps the wardrobe fresh and updated.
